It’s been a long time since I’ve last made an article solely about STAYC. And since I stopped making the monthly faves articles, there isn’t the same space for me to talk about one song here and there unless I really have a lot to say on it. Although I have thought about possibly introducing a smaller format of the monthly faves like I used to do on here. But we’ll see how I’m feeling in 2025.
Anyway, I say all that because even though I haven’t mentioned them much on here, I do still like and listen to STAYC. But their stuff in 2022 and 2023 was very hit or miss for me. 2024 has been a bit better for me, with “Twenty” and “Give It 2 me” being my favorites of Metamorphic. And …I feels like we’re also getting back on track.
Also, they just celebrated their four-year anniversary. I can’t believe it’s already been that long since they debuted. It feels like it was like two years ago 😮.
Alright, let’s get into …I.
I’ve said this countless times now, but I love the Y2K aesthetic. I think it’s just part of my brand now, lol. But STAYC having a sparkly lilac Blackberry phone in the teaser is great. And love how creative they made the preview look with all the tech details. You can’t have a song called “GPT” and not lean into it.
“GPT” is such a bright, fun, poppy song. Very catchy and what I would associate with STAYC. What you expect a title track of theirs to sound like. A bit like “ASAP”. Which might also be why I love it so much. The choreo is perfect for the TikTok, viral dance routines everyone does now. I love the way they incorporate it throughout the music video.
There are scenes where you have the main story going on and then when it gets to the chorus, you see some of the members doing the heart dance. But the timing of it works perfectly.
The styling is great. While looking for photos for this article, I scrolled through their Twitter account, and their stylist(s) get it. I saw so many looks I wished were in my closet. I really love the sweater outfits in the music video for “GPT”. That’s my favorite group look.
I also love when the teaser/concept photos actually have scenes within the music video. They aren’t just some random place that has nothing to do with the story being told/showcased to the viewer. Save that for the photo book.
The b-side on …I is “Meant To Be” and it’s a slower paced song. I love these songs from STAYC. I love their upbeat tracks too, but there’s something about a girl group midtempo track that hits differently.
Then we have an instrumental version of “GPT” and an acapella version on the remainder of the album. Which is fine. It’s a single album essentially, so you’re not going to get anything other than the two new songs. Otherwise, it’d just be a mini (EP) album. I used to listen to instrumentals more when I first became a Kpop fan, but no so much anymore. Most of the time I’d rather just have a song with lyrics.
And those are my thoughts on …I. What are y’alls thoughts? I got to this one a bit late this time. But once I finally got around to hearing these songs, I knew I had to mention them on here. Next up, we’re talking about Spotify Wrapped.
