Quick Thoughts: Yeonjun – GGUM

There’s just something about a new era with TXT that ALWAYS hits different. When it was first announced we were finally getting a Yeonjun solo after it being hinted at for like, idk at least two years, it feels like. I was extra hyped.

I have the opposite of ‘I hate Yeonjun’ disease that seems to be ramped among certain Kpoppies. I can’t say I’ve thought about who I wanted a solo from with TXT, but 4th gen it-boy Yeonjun makes sense.

It felt like memes and people talking about their excitement flooded my timeline instantly. Everyone putting pink filters over their pfp’s to pink to match the ‘Loading’ teaser. Or just using the ‘Loading’ picture as their pfp. And of course my favorite meme:

And then this cute “GGUM” themed MOA Bong, omggg??? 😍. Iconic.

Yeonjun is a Virgo, so I knew he was gonna kill it with “GGUM”. The visuals alone have such a cool vibe around them. Very like Nigo BAPE vibes. Especially the figurine that comes with the physical album. That’s the first brand/creative director/designer that comes to mind. You can tell Yeonjun put a lot of thought and creativity in mind with “GGUM”. Musically, pick a random album, and you’re likely gonna see his name somewhere in the song credits.

Really, my only complaint is that I wanted like two more songs at least to go along with “GGUM” and for it to be more like a mini album. When I hear the term mixtape, I think EP. So at least like three or four songs, if not longer.

So that’s my only disappointment. I was so ready to jam to a Yeonjun mini album, but that isn’t what we got this time. I think with “GGUM” being so well received and won a music show win, we’ll likely get a full solo in the near future.

I knew TXT was working on new music, so I wasn’t too surprised that we only got one song. But man, what a song. I guess they knew we’d have it on repeat, so we didn’t need more songs to listen to. Stream TXT10 after “GGUM” I guess, lol.

Let’s get into the song “GGUM”.

“GGUM” works so well, again because of the simplicity of it. It’s catchy but simple. And these are the songs that are really standing out to me lately. I love the high pitch auto vocals. I love that we (MOA) were recently talking about how Yeonjun doesn’t really rap anymore really, and mans dropped this on us.

“GGUM” is upbeat and poppy, but also a distrack (can a music video be a distrack as well? I think so) to the haters, and I love that duality going on there. Omg that scene with Yeonjun climbing on the table and talking into the mic before being hauled away is another meme/moment that has permanently changed the “what’s an opinion that has you like this” question on Twitter. Like that Flynn Rider gif.

I love the story going on in “GGUM”. It’s a music video where you have multiple locations and feels like a mini movie. What’s gonna happen next. The shots and scene changes were really entertaining because you weren’t sure if we were going back to a dance scene or more of Yeonjun being a menace.

There were more outfit changes than I expected too and the way this video was shot, you would get these transitions that flowed so beautify into each other. This felt like a short video. I mean, it is a short video, but the time that was used in it was efficient because I didn’t feel like any scene dragged on for too long.

I’m just incredibly impress and proud of Yeonjun (period) kicking off the solos (and maybe subunit debuts?) for TXT.

As of writing, The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY, TXT’s 11th album has been announced, and I’m ecstatic about it. Look at this teaser:

This era is going to be GORGEOUS!!! I can’t wait for November 4th. I had to shoehorn that in, lol. I kept finding more images I wanted to include in this article, that I completely forgot to talk about Yeonjun’s dark red hair and heavy blush. Once again, he pulls off any look. I really love this dark burgundy on him. And as it faded, it still looked so pretty.
