Okay, hear me out. Am I late at posting a Quick Thoughts on NA in regard to album release? Yes. However, Tzuyu’s solo is happening in like 3 days. Sooooo timing wise, I think it makes sense to quickly revisit NA, before Tzuyu comes to slay. So let’s get into it!

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed NA from start to finish, versus IM NAYEON. One of my biggest “complaints” if you can even really call it that, was how many different genres there are on it. It felt a bit jumbled together. We don’t have that issue at all on NA. Completely fixed that problem. It felt like Nayeon and production had a more cohesive sound and story for this album.

Not that IM NAYEON didn’t have a story and trip it took you on. There are just more stops along the way. NA felt like we knew exactly where we were going, no unplanned stops along the way, just going from A to B. Or rather “ABCD”.

Uh, unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy “ABCD” as much as I hoped. My least favorite song on the album, and Nayeon title at the moment. It kinda has this same vibe that some of TWICE’s newer songs have. Where they’re a little choppy and wordy. There are parts of “ABCD” I like. I like the chorus. I like the anti-chorus we get there squeezed in there. But I don’t like the verses that are before the one leading up to the bridge and chorus of the song.

I love the music video. If there’s one thing, Miss Nayeon is gonna do is be stunning and have all the best looks. One of the reasons I had to revisit this album and era is because I remembered I want to buy a physical copy of this as well as Taemin and Jaehyun’s albums. I’ll have a full review of J soon.

But I don’t hate “ABCD”, I just don’t love it as much as “Pop”. It isn’t as much of an earworm, I think. But man, the rest of this album really picks up the “slack”.

I get why “ABCD” was chosen as the title. It’s a big song, like “Killin Me Good“. But I sighed a breath of relief once “Butterflies” started.

Ohhhh I love it. This was more of what I wanted. More Pop, tiny bit of R&B if you squint. And that’s really the main sound on NA, so no surprise I was here for it. “Heaven” featuring Sam Kim feels like an Ariana Grande song in the best way.

I have noticed they (JYPE) has had more English being incorporated in the solo songs (not just the group songs). And it’s fine. I think “Heaven” works incredibly well, and I love San Kim’s addition to the track. I don’t like raps being on a song just to check a box on a list. It comes and goes quickly, which is also a plus.

Then our next feature song is “Magic” with Julie of KISS OF LIFE. And like in “Heaven” we don’t have a long-drawn-out rap. A few more adlibs, but it’s not distracting. “Magic” is more fun and upbeat than the previous two songs. A nice change of pace since we’re at the halfway point of the album.

HalliGalli” keeps the fun going. Produced by AKMU’s Lee Chanhyuk, and idk, it feels like he had me in mind with this one. It’s a dance track and easily one of my favorite songs off the album. Maybe second fave? Of course, we had to have a PinkPantheress-esque song, since that’s the trend at the moment. I loveeee all this Y2k stuff so much. Anyway, “Something” is such a banger.

Probably my third favorite song on NA. And last but not least is my favorite song on NA, “Count It“. A midtempo track I’ve had on repeat all summer. Another one I can’t but feel like it was designed with me in mind, lol. I really love her voice and the harmonies going on in this song. Excellent ending for an excellent album.

Listening to NA all over again for this review reminded me how much I love this album. It’ll be another one in the top five of my favorite releases, I think. And it’s made me even more excited to see what Miss Tzuyu has up her sleeves.

I feel like to non-ONCE, Tzuyu is this quiet beauty, and she is, but she’s so talented and funny. Plus, she’s a Gemini and you never know what you’re going to get with us. I’m predicting a 100/10, minimum. I’m ready.

So what are y’alls favorite songs from NA? Are you hyped for Tzuyu’s upcoming solo? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter and Instagram
