Or alternatively titled, Quick Thoughts: GFRIEND – Season of Memories pt 2. Now I thought we were getting like three songs at least for this special album, not like a single album. So I’m disappointed by that. However, what the girls have given us has been top tier.
I’m writing this a bit out of order from what I originally planned, lol. But I’m seeing plenty of similarities between GFRIEND and GOT7 in their respective comebacks. Spoilers for WINTER HEPTAGON, but GOT7’s “Our Youth” has a similar vibe to “Always”. Both groups are reflecting on their time as active groups and talking about the journey both have been on with fans. They’re both upbeat, sweet songs.
I love love love the music video for “Always”. The mix of live action and animation is perfect. The styling is wonderful, AGAIN. I really forgot how much I love GFRIEND’s outfits. I will say the shoes and dresses don’t go together in the stage performance scene. Umji’s look works because her shoes are all white, whereas everyone else has black and white shoes and idk what’s up with that. Why didn’t they just give them all white shoes and socks? Because Eunha has white shoes, but they gave her black socks. It bothers me.
The train outfits are super cute. They’re almost school uniform outfits. You know what? They remind me of the uniforms the girls wear on Gossip Girls. They’re preppy but not the traditional uniforms with strict rules attached and everyone looks the same because they’re not allowed to accessorize them really.
SinB’s look is my head to toe look. The super long red bow is everything. The cropped blazer and pins attached to it is adorable. Exactly how I’d customize it. Then Sowon’s look. I love the exaggerated collar and the leg of mutton sleeved blouse. The bottom of the dress is gorgeous. Umji’s black and cream sweater with the gray skirt? Totally Gossip Girl.
Yerin is giving us Gossip Girl too, and I love that she also has a red accessory. I like the half the group gets one color and the other half gets something different (for the most part). Eunha’s dress is super cute, but I don’t love the shirt they paired it with. Her hat is cute too. I love the puff sleeves on Yuju’s blouse too. But I also feel like it doesn’t match with the dress she was given. The tie and hair bow are to die for, though.
The setting. I don’t think we’ve touched on that yet, this is such a fun location. I love the way everything gets tied up at the end, and it’s a full circle moment. The best part was the flashback (#flashback) where you quickly see scenes from past GFRIEND videos, I’m not crying, you’re crying 😭.
The choreography for “Always” is great. And again, going back to the song itself, I love that it’s upbeat and keeps the party, the celebration going. There’s also a lyric video out for “Always” too now.
It’s so cute, it’s basically a behind-the-scenes of recording the song and music video (and concept photos) but with live vocals, versus the polished studio audio. I love this take. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone do this. They’re really going all out for this era, and I’m here for it.
Idk which song I prefer, “Season of Memories” or “Always”. I think it’s too early to call. I know I’ll be listening to both a lot this year. I’m truly praying that we continue to see more GFRIEND activities after this promotional cycle is over. I know they just had their concert in Seoul (I’m jealous) and a ton of idols attended it. It looked like so much fun, and I’m so happy Buddies are having a great time this era. It’s very emotional, but it’s a lot of happy tears.
But what are y’alls thoughts. If you missed my thoughts on “Season of Memories”, you can read that here. Do you have a favorite song from Season of Memories? Let me know in the comments.
